Improving safety in underground workings

07/23/2025

Ensuring fast and reliable wheel removal in underground mining environments is essential for improving safety and increasing productivity in mining operations. GHH Fahrzeuge, a supplier of auxiliary equipment in Russia, recently equipped one of Norilsk's leading mining operations with four BLT wheel changers manufactured by Titan Makina (Turkey).

The BLT is equipped with a powerful hydraulic manipulator capable of lifting loads up to three tons to a height of 3.5 meters and extending the boom up to one and a half meters. This design allows for the automation of most operations, eliminating the need for manual operator intervention.

Thanks to its unique functionality, the device can independently remove wheels ranging in size from R12 to R29 and weighing up to 1.5 tons, transport them, and reinstall them. Damaged components are transported for repair thanks to the vehicle's convenient platform. Operation is performed remotely from a remote control, ensuring operator safety on the job site. An integrated air compressor allows tire inflation directly on-site during repairs.

The operator's cabin is equipped with all necessary safety equipment and meets ROPS/FOPS Level 2 certification standards. The wheel puller itself is small enough to maneuver easily in tight mine aisles: just 2.2 meters wide, 2.6 meters high, and 9.2 meters long.

Continuously expanding its range of auxiliary equipment for underground mining, GHH Fahrzeuge strives to offer customers highly effective solutions that combine maximum equipment reliability with a full range of 24/7 service support.
